Cesc Fabregas admits that Jose Mourinho was his ‘enemy’ before the manager brought him to Chelsea in the summer of 2014.

The 30-year-old midfielder has had numerous battles with Mourinho down the years, during his time at Arsenal and Barcelona, but stressed that he was ‘thoroughly behind’ the Portuguese following his transfer to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea host Mourinho’s Manchester United side at the beginning of next month and Fabregas will undoubtedly be chomping at the bit to feature against his former manager once again. The Spaniard told Vanity Fair:

‘Jose Mourinho? He was my enemy when he was in Madrid or Chelsea. We were in competitions and we wanted to win against the other.

‘Then I became his player at Chelsea and I was thoroughly behind him. This is football today.

‘I learned a lot from him and I have very positive memories with him that I would keep for life.’

Antonio Conte’s Premier League champions face Watford, Everton, Bournemouth and Roma before their clash with United and will be hoping to get back to winning ways after three matches without a victory.
