Chelsea receive green light to seal £26.4m winger deal in January

According to ESPN, Chelsea have been boosted in their January pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain winger Lucas Moura with manager Unai Emery revealing after their victory against Lille on Saturday that the club has spoken to him about a possible move.

Well, French media outlet Le10Sport claimed last month that the Blues would move for the Brazilian as a replacement for Willian, who they were hoping to sell to China for a large fee before signing Lucas for around €30m (approximately £26.4m right now).

ESPN has quoted Emery after PSG’s 3-1 success against Lille on Saturday, where the 46-year-old said: “We have spoken with Hatem [Ben Arfa] and Lucas about possible moves, nobody else.”

Despite scoring 19 goals and providing a further 11 assists in 53 appearances in all competitions for PSG last term, the 25-year-old has been restricted to just five substitute outings in Ligue 1 during the current campaign following the arrivals of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe during the summer.

The Brazil international still has a goal and an assist in 71 minutes on the pitch however, and a move away looks certain next month.

Would he be a good signing for Chelsea?

He certainly could be, yes.

While he has barely played for the French outfit this season the 25-year-old has certainly shown the quality and goalscoring ability he can bring over the course of the last few years with PSG, and he would add some pace to their attack.

Where would he play?

It’s difficult to say.

Considering Chelsea’s current system it is hard to see where Lucas fit in given he usually plays on the wing, as he is unlikely to be trusted to have the defensive capabilities to play as a full-back.

That would mean he would be relying on Conte using a 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1 formation for him to be included in the starting XI.
