Antonio Conte talks about Alexis Sanchez transfer to Chelsea; Michy Batshuayi future

Antonio Conte has revealed he is unsure if Chelsea are trying to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal.

The 29-year-old looks set for a move to Manchester United after Manchester City pulled out of the race for Sanchez, but the Blues made a late move for the player on Monday night.

The champions asked about Sanchez’s demands through intermediaries and would be willing to capitalise on any breakdown, The Independent reported although there is a belief United are now too far ahead despite “complicated” negotiations with Arsenal.

And when asked ahead of Wednesday’s EFL Cup second leg with Arsenal – which Sanchez is highly unlikely to play in after being left out for the same reason on the weekend – Conte admitted he didn’t know if the Blues were interested before adding that he didn’t think so.

“I don’t know. I don’t think so. I don’t know, but I don’t think so,” he said. “About the transfer market, I prefer to talk to the club, also to give opinions.

“I repeat: I don’t want to give my opinion about the transfer market.”

We also broke the news that back-up striker Michy Batshuayi would be moving to Sevilla on loan – but only if Chelsea got in a replacement.

Andy Carroll and Sanchez were the two who were on Chelsea’s radar but Conte again insisted he had no idea what was happening with the transfers.

“He is Chelsea’s player and he is in our squad,” he said about Batshuayi. “Tomorrow he has to play. I think this is the truth until now.

“He is a Chelsea player and is having the possibility to show that he can play for Chelsea. This is the reality, in the future I don’t know what will happen.”
