Good for Chelsea: Riyad Mahrez exit agreement revealed

Riyad Mahrez & Leicester

Will this prove to be a significant update this January regarding Riyad Mahrez’s ongoing future with Leicester?

Many still can’t quite believe that Mahrez is still a Foxes player.

Ever since Leicester won the Premier League, rumors have been linking the Algerian with a King Power Stadium exit.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are just some of the clubs rumored to have tracked Mahrez in recent times.

Barcelona have also been linked to the 25-year-old North African star.

‘Leicester agree he can go’

On Monday it’s been announced via France Football journalist Nabil Djellit that Mahrez could finally be set to make his next move.

The big update is that Riyad Mahrez still wants to leave Leicester City this month.

Moreover, Mahrez has an agreement with the Leicester owners that allows him to do so.

While the terms of this agreement have been kept under wraps, it’s interesting to note that Mahrez doesn’t appear to have a release clause in his contract.

And after last weekend’s Chelsea game, Kasper Schmeichel told the BBC that Mahrez has no exit clause in his Leicester deal.

Mahrez has been in brilliant form for Leicester this season. He’s scored seven goals and chipped in with 10 assists.

It’s also worth noting that Mahrez is under contract until 2020.

Arsenal & Chelsea

One suspects that the two sides likeliest to sign Mahrez are either Arsenal or Chelsea.

Chelsea fans were given a front row seat last weekend at Stamford Bridge to see why Mahrez would be an asset for Antonio Conte.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are looking for new signings as Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil edge closer to the exit door.
