Antonio Conte sends message to Alvaro Morata over his poor form at Chelsea

Antonio Conte believes Alvaro Morata must work diligently and have patience before he can return to his scintillating best at Chelsea.

Morata, 25, had a barnstorming start to life at Chelsea after completing a high-profile move to Stamford Bridge last summer but the Spaniard’s form has dried up his recent weeks.

The striker has been struggling with a persistent back problem and has not found the net for Chelsea since the side’s 2-0 victory over Brighton on Boxing Day.

Olivier Giroud’s arrival in January has provided further competition for a starting spot in Chelsea’s attack and Conte has urged Morata to show a positive response.

Asked about Morata’s concerning form, Conte said:

‘He has to work. He has to work and recover the best form after the injury to his back. He has to work and have patience, and we must have patience.

‘But the only way is to work.’

Chelsea travel to the Etihad to face Manchester City this weekend and Conte admitted that he has ‘great admiration’ for the runaway Premier League leaders.

‘I think we must have a great admiration for this team because they are having a fantastic path this season,’ he said.

‘Sometimes this is very difficult to find a weakness in this team.

‘I think when you work very well and there is a great feeling between the manager and club you can work the way you want to improve the way you want.

‘They have the possibility to spend a lot of money, and when you link the two things this is the final result.’
