Chelsea may be fearing major exit as club prepare interesting contingency plan – report

Chelsea are heading into a very interesting summer period, with a top-four finish still yet to be cemented by Antonio Conte’s men.

In truth, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see them miss out, and so our resident Blues are fearing the worst.

Not being in the Champions League next season would be a huge blow for Chelsea on a number of levels, but perhaps where it could hurt most is with regards to their playing personnel.

A few major names that perhaps could have forced moves away the last time Chelsea missed out on a top-four finish might not be feeling so generous this time around, and so there is a genuine chance that the Blues could lose some key players this summer.

This is, seemingly, something that Chelsea are worried about – given a recent report from ESPN.

According to ESPN, Chelsea are fearing that Thibaut Courtois could leave the club this summer, and so they are among the clubs tracking RB Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi as a potential replacement.

Courtois’ future, of course, isn’t only a concern if they don’t finish in the top four. He could well depart regardless, though you’d imagine that the chances of it happening will be vastly increased if the rest of their season doesn’t go to plan.

For his part, Gulacsi has been a key part of the RB Leipzig first team this season, having emerged as one of the Bundesliga’s most consistent shot-stoppers.

He has vastly improved from his time at Liverpool, and so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him move to a big European club.

Verdict

He’s not as high-profile as Thibaut Courtois, but Gulacsi is clearly a great shot-stopper.

Providing fantastic aerial dominance, decent agility and a towering frame, he’s a well-rounded option.

However, that being said, losing Courtois would be a disaster for Chelsea. Alongside Eden Hazard, Courtois is the poster boy of the team, and though he has made mistakes, the Belgian has taken over seamlessly from Petr Cech.

Losing him would be a very worrying sign for the Blues.
