Pat Nevin names two Chelsea FC stars who can fire Blues to top-four finish

Pat Nevin believes Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata to hold the key to Chelsea FC’s top-four challenge.

The Blues are in fifth place in the Premier League table and five points adrift of Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of a Champions League qualification spot.

The west London outfit have lost four of their last six Premier League games to tumble down the table, including losses to Manchester City and Manchester United.

Chelsea FC signed France international Olivier Giroud in a £21m deal from Arsenal on transfer deadline day in the January transfer window.

Giroud was signed to ease the workload on Morata after the Spanish forward’s goals dried up after an impressive start to his Blues career.

The 31-year-old hasn’t opened his account in the Premier League since moving to Chelsea FC in a deadline day move.

Giroud has added something different to Antonio Conte’s team with his presence at the top of the Blues team.

Former Chelsea FC winger Nevin believes Giroud and Morata can help the Blues to win the FA Cup and finish in the Premier League’s top four.

“A strong finish to the season from him with Olivier Giroud here too will make the chase for the FA Cup and a top-four position in the league much more likely to be successful,” Nevin told Chelsea FC’s website.

“In actual fact, I wish the Spurs game was sooner than two weeks away as our form is pretty good. At least the three-game pivotal period didn’t start with two defeats which would have left us all with a rather dark cloud over us until the international week was concluded.

“As it is, having beaten Leicester, the outlook is sunnier. Well it will be when this interminable winter finally leaves us!”

Morata has netted 10 goals and has made five assists in 24 games in the Premier League this term.
