Luis Enrique is close to replacing Antonio Conte as Chelsea manager, according to reports in Spain.

The former Barcelona boss is on Arsenal’s shortlist of candidates to succeed Arsene Wenger, and reports in France on Thursday claimed that he has already spoken to the Gunners’ head of football relations Raul Sanllehi.

Luis Enrique has a close relationship with Sanllehi due to their time together at Barcelona and it’s claimed that the 47-year-old is interested in the job at Arsenal.

But according to Sport, Luis Enrique will make a decision over his future in the next few days and is closer to joining Chelsea ahead of Arsenal.

The report claims that Luis Enrique has already met with Chelsea’s hierarchy but still needs to negotiate the final details of his contract with the club.

Sport also report that Luis Enrique favours a move to Chelsea because Arsenal’s project appeals to him less.

Conte is set to depart Chelsea at the end of the season, even if he wins the FA Cup by beating Manchester United in next month’s final.

The Italian still has a year remaining on his contract and reports claim that he would be due a £10 million payoff.

Wenger, meanwhile, has claimed he will have no say in who replaces him at Arsenal but spoke highly of Luis Enrique, who guided Barcelona to five trophies in 2015.

‘I have a high opinion of him but I do not want to influence the job of the next manager,’ Wenger said on Wednesday.
